Free (from) Trade Zones

is the title for a thesis that speculates on the pitfalls and glitches originating from Free Trade and International Trade Districts.

Focused on reclaiming agency via “hacking” of existing systems of power and finance, the inquiry aims to define trajectories and explore alternative trade tactics that may equate to fewer “placeless” locales where polyglot urbanism and monoculture lives are embraced to the detriment to local economies and communities.

Culminating with varied architectural outposts situated in the international shipping, trading, and financial powerhouse of Metro Toronto the pursuit aims to borrow from present and past typologies as well as burgeoning tactics to find new clarity and resilience within flows of traveling goods, information, and people.

The underlying theme of the work is an exploration of infrastructural corridors, grey areas, and communal access to goods and services.
